FRESH. LOCAL. SUSTAINABLE
We believe that, all things being equal, fresh and local is always better. So we work hard to find the highest quality ingredients and treat them simply and with respect – highlighting the best of the season in support of local farmers and artisan producers. We also believe that producing great food requires a partnership between producers, purveyors and chefs.
We are excited to be part of a growing Northshore food culture that highlights the best of what New England has to offer.
Some of our partners and purveyors include:
Red’s Best –Red’s Best is redefining the commercial fishing industry by forging direct partnerships between chefs and fishermen and providing the freshest, local, sustainable seafood available anywhere. Red's Best was born from the mind of Jared Auerbach, a young fisherman from Boston who cut his teeth fishing on commercial vessels in Alaska and Cape Cod, MA. Jared learned from the generations of fishermen there and across America. Buying Red's Best fish supports fishermen whose livelihood depends on the catch.
Seaview Farms – Ken Lane is a seventh generation farmer here in Rockport, raising all-natural grass-fed beef as well as a variety of fresh, local produce.
Lindley Farms at the Highlands – A local farm in Essex, MA, Lindley provides us with a variety of local herbs and vegetables. “Farmer Josh” is also one of our Grand Cafe waitstaff and brings fresh picked produce in to the kitchen several times a week.
Appleton Farms - Appleton Farms in Hamilton and Ipswich is one of the oldest continuously operating farms in the United States. Established in 1638 by a land grant to Samuel Appleton, it is the oldest working farm in Massachusetts, and at 1,000 acres, one of the largest. Perhaps more importantly, the farm preserves a bucolic, pastoral landscape, agricultural traditions, and historic farm buildings that are rapidly disappearing in the eastern part of the state. Appleton Farms provides us with artisan farmhouse cheeses, butter and dairy products.
Giovanna Gelato e Sorbet – Located in Malden, MA, Giovanna Gelato produces small-batch, artisan gelatos and sorbets using authentic Italian flavors and methods. Their gelatos and sorbets are made with all-premium, fresh products. Gelato Maker, Eduardo Kreindel, not only produces popular flavors, but also works collaboratively with local chefs to develop their own creations.
Ryan & Wood Distilleries – Ryan & Wood Distilleries in Gloucester, MA, makes fine artisan spirits including Rye Whiskey, Vodka, Gin and Rum. Perfect in a mixed drink or cocktail, these spirits are also great straight up.
Cape Ann Brewing Co. – Cape Ann Brewing Company brews a variety of fine beers in Gloucester, MA.
Spindrift Sodas – Locally produced in Charlestown, MA, these sodas are made simply with 100% fruit juice, real cane sugar, seltzer water and little else. Great in one of our specialty cocktails or simply as an accompaniment to your meal, these are sodas that you can be excited to drink.
Wellfleet Sea Salt Co. - Hope Schwartz-Leeper and Zachary Fagiano founded Wellfleet Sea Salt Company while in their junior year at Skidmore College. They have put their heart and soul into making a company that they are proud to run. They put this same level of devotion into their product, an artisanal sea salt, because they believe that true quality comes from those who create it. Hope and Zach infuse the salt with their concern for the environment, their love of local and organic food, and their interest in the history of Cape Cod's salt works.
Skuna Bay Salmon – Sometimes sourcing locally simply is not possible. While our waters are abundant with some of the best seafood in the world, there are no local salmon. So when we need to source a product that is not local, we look for farmers, artisans and purveyors that share our values and commitment to sustainable, artisan production. Skuna Bay Salmon is one of those partners. Frankly, Skuna Bay’s craft-raised, artisan salmon is one of the best tasting salmon we have ever had. They are also committed to sustainability and are addressing virtually all of the environment concerns regarding farmed salmon.
